I'm getting power from house batteries for about 10 seconds when i engage the inline switch and my kohler generator won't stay running unless i keep the start switch depressed. Checked all grounds,hots, new batteries,fuses.I can jump the run relay in control box to hot and will run,but no power. could this be a bad converter on my 86 holiday imperial?
Try checking to make sure that the battery has the correct connections. it will start and run if the pos and neg are reversed but no power and when you do get power it will be temporary. found this out while hunting in colorado this year.
You have no ac output.

4/5 7 ckm's/cckm (if its one of those)has stator problems here and there+if its got a pb3 volt reg they had problems too
theres a bazillion out there,i just see the 1% that are problems..
whats the model of the gen,im an ex kohler guy,maybe ill remember it and can lead you in the right direction
it could be anything from bad volt regulator,brushes hanging,dirty slip rings,bad rotor/stator....
I recently bought an old RV that has a Kohler generator.
It turns over but does not fire up. I've checked the spark plug. It shows a spark. I replaced it and the spark seems the same. I shot some D-40 into the cylinder and carb but no fire up at all.
Is it something that needs to be junked (I hope not-- sigh)
Thank's for the reply.I have found that if i jump the run relay in the control box, the generator will stay running. Out of three attempts i had power to the lights one time only. Also,if i engage the auxillary battery switch i have lights for about 10 seconds and they go out.I have cleaned all grounds and connections that i can, could this be a bad inverter or converter to make the generator run only with start switch held down? This is a kohler 7000, model # 7cm21-rv, spec. # 14032-A in a 1986 holiday imperial. Thanks again.
I have the same Rv as gary G with the same generator fuel line was rotted i fixed trying to prime motor but wouldnt run more than 30 sec all the sudden now it wont start have fuel & spark owners manual says there's a reset switch in there with the gen but i cant find it.also there's 3 start switch's they all worked when i started now only the 1 in the gen compartment work's can you help?
