1998 Georgie Boy Cruisemaster. 33'. My green switch failed this weekend on the way home from camping. I replaced it and added oil and was back on the road. My concern is that the shoes for the auto-brake may have got damaged when the switch failed. There was a lot of smoke coming from the auto-brake drum. Is there a procedure somewhere on how to take apart auto-brake drum to check the shoes and replace if needed? I am a ex-mechanic with lots of tools.
Jeff;
your GM dealer has the procedure--but is is NOT correct--I got it from my local dealer as a reference--
they have no clue how to do the job--i did mine a couple years back---it's a stinker--before you remove the drive shaft--Mark it so it goes back (exactly) as you took it apart--
brake shoes ( GM-15619929 ) some where around $160.oo and replace the trans seal when you do it- ( GM-24238132 ) if you have a 4L80E transmission

Rich, thanks for the response. My main concern is that the brake is applied while the vehicle is off. Will I need to turn on the ignition and put the shifter into reverse to get the brake to release in order to take the drum off and on?
