Is there a web sight that tills you how to install heat stipps in a Duo Therm Brisk roof top AC unit nonducted that I could look up or does anybody know how and what would I need other than the heat stipps to install one Thanks Jim
Instructions should come with the heat strip. You may have to change the thermostat too. The heat strips should be called break the chill strips. When it is cold, they don't do much as far as heating your unit.
Jim -- On a non ducted air conditioner, the heat element mounts in the Air Distribution Box on the ceiling and there is a plug available to make the connection. It is really easy and most do not require a thermostat change. Contrary to popular belief, the heat strip puts out as much heat as the kind you plug into an outlet - about 5000 BTUs. The digference is that the air cond has a higher volume blower and the air does not feel real hot but it is still 5000 BTU. You can order the part from Dometic Cust Serv with a credit card - have your model number handy. WH
Joe is right. Your unit would need 20,000 to 40,000 BTU's to heat it, and a 5,000 BTU heat strip will only break the chill. I know since I had two installed in my motorhome. When it is 30 degrees, it can run all night and it will be still too cold in the morning. Don't waste your money.
For $60 you can get a small adjustable heater that will give you so much more heat than the heat strip. I had one installed by the dealer and had to change my thermostat. When it was all over, it cost in excess of $300. If it is 65 and you want it warmer, it helps, but at 45 all it does is move air.
Buy a ceramic heater and you will get much better results than heat strips. I bought an A/C with a heat pump and that is the key if you want to use electric. If you want real heat, use your furnace. Believe me, heat strips aren't worth the expense.
