I have an older suburban nt34sp. the unit it is in is a 85 chev rockwood. we have had this unit for approx 4 years and the unit has worked perfectly till this year. we can not get it to light no matter what we do. since rv mechanics are rather expensive so my question is what part should I check first and so on. I know I need to take it to a mechanic but need to know if what part should I check first to see if it is bad

Hi Jerry, If you don't hear it sparking (clicking noise) the first thing I'd try is removing the PC board and taking it to an RV shop and have them check it. Shouldn't cost you anything to have it checked. You may have to remove the furnace unless you have outside access (rare) to get to the circuit board. Suburban for some reason didn't design their furnaces for easy repair. Good luck!
Does the fan start? If not check the 12 v power at the furnace. If the fan does start, check the sail switch to make sure power is getting past the sail switch -- if OK, unplug the board and plug it back in 2 or 3 times to wipe any corrosion off the contacts. If still no ignition, do as Kieth suggests. Suburbans are hard to diagnose without putting it on a test bench. Good Luck WH
I had to have 2 coleman furnaces rebuilt while traveling 2 yrs ago. One did have a bad circuit board and I was lucky enough that the tech had a new one on hand. The other one had a weak motor and needed to have new brushes installed. There is a speed switch on the air mover device(William may call it the sail switch). If the speed is slower than required the switch doesn't close and allow the propane supply switch to open and let propane flow. This is part of the 12v control circuit. Good luck!!
