Tip on egr valve being stuck open. My 96 Buick 3.8 was idleing very rough. Sounded like a racing cam, real throaty sound at air filter. Called my mechanic friend to stop by. He ask for a heavy hammer. Bumped the base of the egr while engine was running 2 times. Idle smoothed out perfect and problem has not returned. 15,000 miles since problem. Wife really babies it. I now blow it out every 2 months.
