Converting 6v92 DDEC to mechanical F.I. BVFireDept. 3-2-08
VFD desperatly seeks Detroit info. Recently purchased a 1996 6v92DDEC "not even broken in" to replace one that ran hot in our 1985 Seagrage fire pumper. The engine was advertised as a "Silver 92" (wrong). What will it take to convert the DDEC to non electroinc? Will the cams fire the mechanical inj's on time. Will the fuel pump mount on the DDEC? Have been told the rack will mount on the DDEC heads. Any experenced information will be appreciated. I have a good basic knowledge of 2-strokes. Our Volunteer fire dept thanks you.

First why take the DDEC controls off? If your stuck with an engine without all the wiring and sensors I can understand. Retro fitting a complete system will be cheaper than going back. I sugest you call one of your local Detroit dealers and ask for help. Our local Detroit dealer has helped out our Volinteers for years by $0 dollar labour and cost on parts. (We give them a tax deductable recete) Mind you we havent popped an engine yet. Good Luck

Thanks BTBT, The 85 Seagrave is not wired for DDEC. We have an almost new less than 5000 miles 6v92 DDEC at a deal. It was in a fire pumper that was rolled. We were told it was a "Silver 92" which would have worked fine. True an electronic DDEC would be the way to go as we even have the engine computer. The wiring harness on th engine going back to the cab was severed. Our 85 Pumper 6v92 was rebult 3 years age for almost $13k and we did not even get kissed. Shame I know. When it ran hot this time it lost power,I looked back and it looked like the doghouse was on fire. It also had a small stream of water coming from the exhaust. Was on a fire call at the time. Will try to get info from Detroit.
