Jim, I have the same year coach holiday rambler 33'and the same situation. I have a new 454 carb type engine at 65mph the temp is 190* as soon as I slow down the fan clutch will engage and start to assist. If I stop for gas the temp will top 230* and it will not start until cooled. GM told me that this engine came with a 190 t-stat. Suitable for normal driving only!!
My engine runs at 2800rpm @65mph the engine oil temp is about 30*hotter. When I slow down at a stop light the fan does not move enough air through the rad to properly cool the engine. To solve your problem change the t-stat to 160* GM recommends for high speed engines (motorhomes).... |
