Ford 460 Heads Iron or Aluminum Craig 2-10-08
I am putting a new 460 in my motorhome. Going with the double roller timing chain, RV cam from Crane, Doug Thorley Headers, and some mild porting on the exhaust side of the heads.

Before I commit to the heads, I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has successfully run Aluminum heads in a Class A motorhome (18,000 GVW). Edelbrock says it shouldn't be a problem
(heat = warping???)and a Ford performance shop locally says it should be ok. Just about everyone else says NO WAY!

I am looking for someone with actual experience, or at least a reliable second hand knowledge. Anyone?

Aluminum heads are A:expensive and B: prone to gasket leaks. You must use the right gaskets etc to minimise the risks. But I would run them if they matched my needs. Most aluminum heads won't be optimum for the rpm range an RV operates at though. My experiance is that the performance heads want to run 1000 to 1500 rpm higher than the intake headers and cam. It makes a huge difrence to how it runs to match everything. Remember that at cruse speed you want your engine as close to torque peak as you can get it.Good Luck

What are the angles of a valve on a 460 heads for a 3 angle valve job
