When synthetic's first came out I didn't hear anything good about them except in the ads. Time has gone on and I still hear about synthetic oil; is there reason to consider it?
I have a 2004 F150 XLT. It only has 7000 or so miles on it. Should I consider synthetic now, or only when it gets to 100,000 miles?
Any debate over synthetic oil to help me make a decision is welcome.
David, I have a 91 Chevy pick up with a V6 that has 204,000 miles on it. I have always used Mobil 1 synthetic oil in it. I swear by it. The motor still runs tight & does not use a bit of oil or smokes. In fact, synthetic oil is all I use on my 2 Harley Davidson motorcycles.

My truck had 27,000 miles on it when I started using synthetic. My new Harley got synthetic on its first oil change. This was recommended by Harley Davidson.
If your engine looses it's coolant and runs hot, synthetic oil could mean you only have to replace head gaskets rather than a complete over haul. It does not break down when things get "a little" over heated. Too much heat will cook anything.
