I bought a 1979 Dodge Concord motor home with a 440 motor. It has less than 40,000 miles on it. It had been sitting for over 3 years when I bought it. Recently the motor developed a knock. Seems to be coming from the passenger side. I thought it was the alternator but its not. Would it be the mechanical fuel pump or oil pump? I hope its not a rod. Other than that, the motor seems to run good.
Owned a 79 Pace Arrow with 440 engine. Never heard a "knock" from the engine. I don't think I could hear noise from either the fuel pump or the oil pump.
Could it be that you have a valve lifter which is not pumping up and allowing noise in the valve train?
That is the only suggestion I can think of which could relate to one particular side of the engine.
Good luck with your engine...hope it isn't a rod!
