I just picked up a '92 Ext. cab S10, 2.8 V6, 5 SP, 2WD, excellent body. I have experience with the 2.8 V6 for several years and though it delivers very good mpg, it is not a great engine. I want to go with a better V6. Will the 3.1 used on front wheel drives work, or is the 4.3 the easiest swap? Is going with a different computer expensive? I'd appreciate ideas and comments.
If you want to spend the money GM will sell you a 3.4 crate engine that will bolt straight in. When I put mine in the instructions said to not use in a fuel injected vehical. We dented the top of the pressure regulator to raise the pressure slightly and the computor had no trouble adjusting from there. The 2.8, 3.1 and 3.4 are all basicly the same engine. The 3.4 is a longer stroke engine that works very well in the pickup while giving a noticable performance increase. If you do this shop around. One GM dealer in town sells for about $1800 while the other is well over $2000 The 4.3 swap is as dificult as putting in a V8. It needs a difrent trany and clutch and and etc.... Lots of custom work. My personal opinion is if I am going to do the work and get that bad of fuel economy I might as well find a 283,307,305,327,350 and build that for less than a complete 4.3 core will cost.
I own a 4cyl. 1991 Volvo 240, and I want to put a V6 in it. I want to make it a lot faster, and I want more torque. I have talked to jasper and Im still not sure. Which one is good and which will give me the most power/ will it fit?
