Turbos are a pretty specilised piece even 6V92 to 6V92. Detroit has turboed every thing just about. So I would ask them if the 6/71 had a turbo and what parts and turbo spec you need. The way that detroit acheved better fuel economy when adding a turbo is they slowed the blower down by changing the gears in the gear case. Good Luck
Turbos come in a lot of different sizes for a lot of different applications. Just adding one onto an engine may not achieve the results you desire.
I have been told that even the stock OEM turbo can be changed to achieve a different result.
I have a 6-71T. I was told a smaller diameter turbo could be installed which would have a quicker spin up than the stock OEM turbo. However, with a smaller diameter it would also reduce the amount of total boost available at the top end for those long hard pulls at full throttle.
With a 2-cycle DD it isn't a simple matter of just installing a turbo. Timing will most likely need to be adjusted to take advantage of the boost. Injectors may need to be changed to so as to not run the engine too lean. You may even need to consider turbo pistons. All of which does not take into consideration the need for more cooling--working harder on long hard pulls will most likely overtax any cooling system that is just adequate now.
Yes a turbo can increasae performance. Yes a turbo can increase your fuel mileage. Yes a turbo is going to cost a lot of $$$. The question you have to ask yourself is if spending those extra $$$ will be worth it to you.
Ihave a 671 and i am also thinking of adding a turbo to it,i have worked out the kooling system.My plan is to use an intercooler, that should take care of the extra heat and give me an extra 25 horsepower.If there is any thing else i should do please let me know.
