I own a 1989 Coachmen Catalina Class A Motorhome that has just blew an engine. It only had 22,000 miles on it. Can someone tell me how to get the old engine out and pur a new turn key engine in. It is a 454 gas carb engine.
If it's a front engine, the best way is to pull it out from under, & that is not a job for an apprentice, & need good equipment. Where the RV is located?
wrench
It will require the removal of the front axle and dropping the engine down and out.
You will need a minimum of 36" of clearance underneath the rig to get the engine out.
Make sure you adequately block the rig so that is can't move while you are underneath it. It is very difficult to breath with a motorhome on top of your chest.
You might also want to consider purchasing a roll of the adhesive plastic sheeting some shops or RV dealers purchase to protect the carpets. It costs a fair amount but some of the stains you will create while wrenching most likely won't come out. And a roll of plastic sheeting is worth a lot compared to the "I told you so's" from your significant other.
