Have a 1986 Itasca Sunflyer with a 454 CID and THM 400. When pulling a hill and warm ambient temps, engine surges, loses power. Have added auxillary fuel pump on frame to feed mechanical pump. Also have checked vacuum lines, fuel filter. Tried spraying carb spray into carb when surging occured - no change. Is vapor lock causing my problem? Noticed that after RV has sat overnight, fill gas tank and take off down the road, no surging happens for 2-3 hours even pullng hills. When it starts acting up. Also blew out left side exhaust seal at manifold. When this happened, no surging but started again the next day with no repairs to exhaust. Has anyone seen this??
I also have 86 Itasca 27 footer.Mine has a electric pump inside of the tank.Don't know why it has another pump. but anyway have you changed the filter at the input to the carb. Also when were the plugs and wires changed last. The pump in the tank has a sock on the intake that may be getting plugged up.Don't know about the p30 chassis but lots of 80s chevy trucks had plastic like baffles that started to come apart with age plugging up the sock and filters, and acted up just like yours.Had a coworker with same problems and spent thousands on it till he replaced the tank and no more problems. His was a 3/4 ton so not sure about the p30s.Also I guess you changed filter on curb side near frame rail? Good Luck Mike
