My '98 Winnebago has a 454 that has a terrible "belt scream" when ever you accelerate or go up hills. It is loud enough to be embarrassing. You can just barely hear the same noise as you cruise down the road. I have taken it to 3 service facilities to get this "belt slipping noise" fixed. After they have installed new belts, tensioners, and alternators and uninstalled $1600 from my wallet it still makes the same noise. I have noticed that it will not make the noise when I apply the brakes and push the gas pedal (power braking) as I thought a belt would do. Am I dealing with something other than a belt problem that just sounds like a belt? What could that be?
Are you sure your tentioner is at the correct setting ? if at the wrong place---the serpentine belt will slip.what about the power steering--or the ac compressor you have a idler too that might have a bad bearing.
rich.
I had the same noise on my 2000 model. The noise comes from the air intake system. There is a restictor built into the air intake mufler. when the engine requires more air it sucks air around the hose conections and so the screeming sound. you should remove the air inlet mufler that is before the air cleaner.
