I have a 1992 bounder and what happens when i start climbing hills she heats up a bit. do i have to use the manufacturers suggested temp. thermostat or can i use a much lower temp. i also have a auxiliary fan on radiator that works. thank you for any info

Use only factory spec. thermostat. I only use dealer thermostat. How hot is it getting.Normal to rise a bit on hills.Has the cooling system been flushed and pressure tested? Not a bad idea on older units.Should be running about 190 or so normal.A 10 or 15 degree rise is fine on big hills. My old Itasca runs about 3/8 s up the gage and up near 1/2 on long hot grades.Soon as the clutch fan comes on it holds or starts dropping. If coolant is a few years old a good flush and 50/50 mix is a good idea. Good Luck MIKE

Hello Michael D
I totally agree with "mike" use Factory parts---if you lower the temp. of the thermostat the computer will tell the enging to run richer---thinking it cold--- you do NOT want to do that.have the radiator cleaned--possibly replacing thermostat controlled Fan NOT a cheap one from napa ---

We have a 1993 Bounder 34 ft, same problem with a new 4 core 1/2" tube,16 fin radiator. It acts the same. new fan clutch, and installed a 180 degree stat. With older TBi engines(late 80's-90"s) the computer is not as criticle to the change. A friend logged 3000 miles before I cahnged to the lower stat.
Re: 1988 454 marine app. temp spec Bill 8-11-08
It may not have wheels but it is still an RV. I have two of these monstors in my boat which I did not purchase new. The engines run at 150 and 180 degrees respectivly. What is the proper temp for these engines (350 HP versions). It's very posible that the thermostats could be different and I'd rather start there prior to the raw water pump, heat exchanger, circ water pump, ect.
