Cat 3208 diesel engine Raymond 6-10-07
I am considering buying a 1982 Rv. It has a 3208 Cat diesel engine in it. I am looking to find out the life expectancy for this engine " mileage wise". Also is this a sound engine design, How does it rate.
Thanks in advance for your help

I have a 1988 motor home with a 3208 CAT. It's been running fine but suddenly lost it's fuel prime. Filters are clean; not freezing weather. I can pump the manual fuel pump and it will run at low idle. If it has a supply pump for the injection pump I'm having a hard time finding it.
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.
Thx,
Sam

Re: Cat 3208 diesel engine wrench 6-10-07
If this is in a wanderlodge it's not going to be fast(unless 300HP version), but can run a WVO(waste vegetal oil). The engine is a block(no wet sleeves) was rated 175-200-225, in truck & up to 300HP with turbo & air cooler in RV & 450HP in boats. As I remember they were good for 200K, they need to turn above 2K, so that make them tirsty, but should give 10MPG.
it's 636 CID, & cheap to replace(plenty of them), heavy, old type engine(you already know that do you?)

I have a cat 3208 210 hp in a 1957 white truck, would like to know if adding a turbo is possible? cat dealer says no. i might need more power, planing on towing a 37 ft. trailer.

In the last reply I see wvo"waste vegetal oil" what does that mean? also what does it mean when you say it has to turn after 2k, what is 636 cid

I have an old Cat motor grader Model 96F192, the engine is 175 HP marked with 7M4400 the technician said it is 1964 model, the transmission marked with 4M4716. I'm looking for engine replacement or overwhole kit. The engine has some defect in the crankshaft due to the bushing wearing in one of the six rods.
If this model is not available, kindly advise for any other suitable choice.
Fell free to ask for any farther info.

Thanks

I have a Cat 3208 engine out of a 89 Top Kick. It runs very good without any smoke. Also, it does not use any oil. I used the truck as a fertilizer spreader. I might be wanting to sell it or us it with a generator. Anyone out there knows what it would be worth? How much horsepower it has? Thanks,
Trey

I have a 3208TI in my boat. 375 HP. The turbo will not engage. I've checked the user manual and see a part listed as a 'Primary air filter'. Sice it's called Primary, does that infer that there is a secondary air filter, and if so, where would it be located?

Sam,
Your transfer pump is located in the front housing of the fuel injection pump. You will have to remove the injection pump to access it.Before doing this check the check valve under the coveron the injection pump, this is the cover that the shut off solenoid is mounted to.

Re: Cat 3208 diesel engine Mike 2-7-10
I have a converted school bus that we use as an RV. It has a 1988 3208 CAT engine. The engine was remanufactured about 25k miles ago.

The engine temps were running high so I replaced the original radiator so now engine coolant temps are rock steady at 180F. The truck radiator place asked me if I wanted to replace the oil cooler and I said no at the time.

What I'm now concerned with is the transmission oil temperature. It often climbs to 230F and if going up hills, will go beyond 230 heading to 320F.

Not having any idea what normal oil temps are, I'm not sure if what I'm experiencing is normal?

Any idea?
