To fit a 96 sunfire john 5-6-07
Hi. i need to figure out what kind of engine i can fit into my 96 sunfire gt 5 speed stick. it currently has a 2.4. what i wanna do is put a 4 or 6 cylinder in it, proly a 6 cylinder.it has to be a diesel or carburated. after i install the engine im going to get a LPG propane conversion kit, since converting the already fuel injected engine is virtually impossible.and after i hook up the engine the kit and some other mods i still have the task of rewiring other normal functions and bypassing the ecm and gutting the majority of extra sensors and things that will no longer be needed after the conversion.and by the way i don't want a race car but all the extra power i can get will help. i kinda want to make it a sleeper car, fancy but not to fancy,im not a racer but i guess i could also add a nitrous kit, just to maby out run a jerk, lol.the main reason im doing this is cuz gas prices are not coming down anytime soon.any input would be great, thankx

John, what you saying make no sense!
A diesel engine weight more then a gas engine & is slower. Propane for same quantity don't output as many HP. Nitrous kit, that the most expensive fuel. Want to outrun other= soon you will be without driving permit. Want to go fast for cheap, you will have to give up some, the way to do that is to ride a motorcycle. Unless you're wealty enough to buy a ferrari!

Dude.wrench, i appreciate your reply, but you have totally missed the point. the point is to eliminate the use of gas and replace it with propane LPG. and in all of my research i have noticed it is virtually impossible to convert a fuel injected engine to LPG as the fuel source because of all the complicated and costly special requirements and mods, hence need being i replace the engine with a diesel or and old fashioned carburated engine and i think now i want it to be a 4 cylinder. and the addition of nitro is just for shats and giggles, one of my friends has been converting engines to LPG = propane for years and i have helped him, another friend of mine is completely finished with his SAE classes, and needless to say I've been working on cars for years and am fully competent and capable of achieving any design and modded upgrade me and my friends have drafted on paper. and also i work at the worlds largest auto parts vendor next to nappa. there would be locations in Canada but the Canadian government regulates and sells and controls that market over there, anyways not to get off track here. again - wrench dude - point missed, i don't want a bike - i don't want a race car or a 'Ferrari; the only thing i needed to know is what kind of diesel or carburated and or 4 or 6 cylinder engine will drop comfortably into my car without any frame modding or special BS i have a 5 speed stick so there's no special requirements for my trans. my options are this because it would be way less costly to drop an engine in there. convert it. and bypass sensors and ecm and depending on other things a chop and swap junk yard style with some parts.the reason why i chose this car is because i got it from down south no rust and its a simple small easy car.and also im converting the rear drum brakes to disc.the conversion kits are a reasonable price in addition i have gone over every inch of this car and everything is tip top shape, and dude are you like what 16.Driving Permit???? well anyways thank you for the informative and not so informative information. John

Or in retrospect. get a diesel engine. convert it to bio - diesel and add a propane conversion kit. i don't remember if you can have a switch to switch from propane to diesel while in operation. i know you can have both running at the same time.. so i guess just a diesel engine that will fit.

Well dude john, "the only thing i needed to know is what kind of diesel or carburated and or 4 or 6 cylinder engine will drop comfortably into my car without any frame modding or special BS " You're on you own mesure them all to find out. As for driving permit, you still got a long way to go before you come close to my credentiel in that field : first turn that 16 around to be on the bulleyes, stock car driver, snowmobile racer, semi driver with double endorsement, had 30 cabs in the Inuit land, 2 patents & 3 pending. So keep sweeping the floor at UAP to pick parts in the dumpster.
