Does your engine have the tin shields around the plugs.My 1985 454 winnie goes about 20k or more before needing wires.Do you have good air flow around the engine.Some models in the 80s needed some air dams to keep air flowing along side of engine.Manifolds would crack due to heat build up.Make sure timimg is on factory spec.Are the manifolds running red hot?Check that EGR is working,can cause lots of heat.Just a few ideas and good luck,let us know what you find.
