I have a 1985 Fleetwood Southwind motorhome. I can't keep the spark plug wires from burning off of it. In less than 500 miles the engine begins to miss. I have replaced both manifolds, bought expensive asbestos boots, rebult the carborator, replaced ignition parts...for five years without any improvement. The motorhome has a 454 Chevy engine and P-30 chassis. Any suggestions and/or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Does your engine have the tin shields around the plugs. My 1985 454 winnie goes about 20k or more before needing wires.Do you have good air flow around the engine. Some models in the 80s needed some air dams to keep air flowing along side of engine.Manifolds would crack due to heat build up.Make sure timimg is on factory spec. Are the manifolds running red hot?Check that EGR is working, can cause lots of heat.Just a few ideas and good luck, let us know what you find. Mike
The engine has the tin shields around the plugs, all the air dams are in place, the timing has been factory set...thanks for the info on the EGR valve, I'll check that out. Thanks for the reply, Rex
Hi go to jegs.com or summitracing.com and order a set of heat shield for your wires. its a sleeve that goes over the wire about 6 to 7 inches long I have a set on my rv P-30 454 chevy also while your on one of those sites ordera good set of high temp wires.
