Check Engine Light Jim Ternus 4-6-07
Hello,

I have a 93 Cobra p-30 with a 454 having 45K miles.

I'm traveling back from vacation when the check engine light came on and I started losing power. I was still able to climb a hill at 55mph, but no power was there when I pushed on the gas. The transmission shifts when I pressed the gas and release.

The light would go on and then go off. It seemed to go on while I was going up a hill. The light would go off if I shut off the engine or go down a hill (sometimes). I was able to travle 400 miles with this light making an apearance once in a while. My longest strech was about 150 miles. The last 80 miles the light came on more.

Also, while in rush hour (stop and go) the light would go on and when we moved a little (30 mph) the light would go off. I seem to have plenty of power when this happened.

A couple of times, I was going down the freeway and the light came on and I exited (afraid of stalling out). The light would go off but I still would not have the power I would expect (merging).

I stopped for about 15 to 20 minutes and was able to take off again.

Does this sound like a fule filter? Or could it be temerature? The engine gage stays at a cool 210 degrees.

Thanks

Jim I would stop by a Autozone parts store and see if they will scan the ECM for any stored codes.Around southern Calif.they will do it for free. The code may not tell you an exact part but may tell you where to start.Sounds like a bad O2 senser, just a guess.Get it scaned and see what shows up.Always good to have a clean fuel filter.Good Luck Mike

I did swing into an Autozone the following morning. I took an educated guess that the fule filter was plugging up. I replaced the filter and drove two days without a problem. I drove the rest of the summer with out any power problems.
