I've got a 78 dodge class c 22ft.I think the fan clutch is
getting weak. should I replace
it or just go to a direct type.
My experience is that the original clutch with the original fan worked far better than did a Flex-Fan without a clutch.
When your cooling needs are highest (like climbing a long grade with a toad) the Flex-Fan is spinning rapidly and flattens out - means less air over radiator!

I HAVE A 79,27' WITH THE 440-3 ENG AND WHEN I BOUGHT IT THE OWNER WAS FIGHTING OVERHEAT. HE HAD DONE EVERYTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT NO LUCK. I TALKED TO A DODGE MECH. AND HE TOLD ME TO LOOK AT THE THERMSTAT. WHEN I DID I FOUND THAT THE OLD OWNER HAD INSTALL A STAT. FOR A CAR AND NOT THE CORRECT ONE FOR THE MOTORHOME. THE OPENING IS ABOUT 1/3 BIGGER. I REMOVED THE FLEX FAN AND WENT BACK TO THE RIGHT ONE. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY TROUBLE SINCE.
