I just bought a 1988 Chevy 1 ton with a 454 motor and the first time pilling my 27' 5th wheel I had overheating problems.
The new radiator that was put in is only a 2 row with the engine coolant,oil and tranny being cooled by it. In front of the
radiator there is cooler for the a/c. It looks like I need to redo this setup. I was planning on buying the bigger 4 row
radiator and a new clutch fan.I was considering adding additional electric fans in front of the radiator and possibly one
directed down in the engine compartment to draw out hot air. I had also considered venting the wheelwells for additional cool
aair as to reduce the interior engine compartment temps. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to set this up. I really
need to keep the temps down as I do alot of hill climbing.

Go with the 3 or 4 row radiator and a new fan clutch. forget the additional fans out front and the fender cuts. The people who build these have better wind tunnels than you do to figure out where the air goes. Make sure the tune on your PU is top notch.
If you have any stats like horsepower and torque on this motor or any general information i would greatly appriciate it if you could share it with me cuz i just bought the same truck for 7000, it has the 454 with a 4-speed manual and 4.11 gears in the front and rear with a skyjacker lift kit and is sitting on some 39 inche mickey thompson baja tires with new paint, interior and chrome bumpers and ladder bars. the motor looks old but started right up. i changed the oil, plugs and wires and will change the rotor with the new cap. it still has a misfire that i have to work out. again any info would be appriciated, thanks ken
If you're pulling a trailer, make sure you have an automatic transmission cooler in addition to the one in the radiatior. Tranny fluid can really heat up the radiator when under a load such as a trailer. I use a B&M Supercooler and most of the guys are using the Hayden cooler. They look alike, just different names. You may also want to invest in a tranny temp gauge. I have one and it doesn't go over 200* .
