I've read and heard about all the in tank fuel pump faliures on the F53 chassis.(Fords TSB also) I'm debating on to change the pump as a maint. item or risk a break down. Have had a couple signs last fall and this spring. Any input from people that have changed the pump or any other info. would be great.

I an trying to replace my own fuel pump, only because the gauge quit.
I can't get the two stainless steel fuel lines loose. Advance sold me a tool they said would slide along the hose into the fitting and release it, but no such luck.
I am also replacing the filler hoses because of a slight leak when I fill the tank.
Any hints of getting the fuel lines loose??
I have a 1994 rv on the f53 chassis and also am in the auto repair busness and elected to chance it. Half way into Wyoming it decided call my bluff.Take this to the bank it will get you. CHANGE THE PUMP AND THE WIRE HARNESS WITH IT>
John, you replaced the pump yourself?? I'm going to replace mine. The TSB mentions the wire harness and I have ordered it too. I have the repair manuals and its replacement seems straight forward and I have the tank down to approx. 8-9 gallons. Drop me a note w/ any info. jtetrault@earthlink.net
I Have a 1987 Motorhome and it has a dead fuel pump. Do you know where I could order one? I tried the local parts store and they suggested i take it to a RV store. The problem is that the pump also supplies fuel to my generator. Any info would be a great help......
Barry, I would work around the failed in-tank pump by buying and installing a external, frame mounted electrical pump. You'll need some hose and couplings to do this, Basically, you're going to draw the fuel through the dead pump---that's no problem--with the new pump. You're going to have to splice the new pump into the old pump's discharge line, and power the new pump with the feed wire removed from the old pump. The thing in mounting an external pump is that you want it to be mounted as close to the bottom of the tank as possible---pumps don't "suck" too well, and away from a source of heat, (the exhaust system). The 4-6 PSI at 72 GPM should feed your Ford just fine.
