Warranties are very specific as to what is covered and as to what repairs will be done. You need to be told the exact cause of the failure, then you can go from there as to providing reciepts for routine maintainance performed per owner's manual. Since you bought the rig used, these items may have been neglected by the previous owner, something you can't be faulted for, however if that neglect led to the engine failure, then the warranty doesn't cover the repair needed now. I would suggest you have an independent Diesel engine mechanic look at the engine for his opinion as to the cause of the breakdown.

I have a 2002 Dodge Diesel 2500. It has about 85,000, and have already had to replace the TPS sensor. Was told it was not under warranty. Took it in to the dealer Friday, and they told me the lift pump and injector pump are bad and need replacing. Injector pump is covered...my question is, why isn't the lift pump covered under the 100,000 power train warranty as well? Thanks for any info. you can supply. Dealer told me the lift pump was not considered part of the motor.

One of the things you can't do with a Cummins is run them hot. I am not referring to the coolant but to the cylinder head temp.

I have seen my pyrometer go way over 950 degrees with the coolant temp below 180 degrees. At 1000+ degrees cylinder head temp you can start melting down pistons.

Considering how few miles the engine has traveled I would make a guess at improper operation or maintenance and not a fault on the part of Cummins.

Good luck.
