We have a small repair shop specializing in transmission repair. Customer brought in a 1977 40'Southwind for a "no reverse problem...no problem! Customer also wants a quote for an engine replacement. Need suggestions on the procedure for removing the engine. There is a large hatch between driver's & passenger's seats but the only entry door is half way back and not large enough to accomodate removal. Underneath there is a solid axle. Appreciate any hints.
I can only speak for a Chevy chassis, but removing the front suspension and dropping the engine and trans together would seem to be the way to go. Harbor Freight sells a floor jack with enough lift. Or you could use a cross beam and a threaded rod to lower the engine. You could remove the heads and muscle the short block up and out the door.
