You just did ID the engine! It is a 440. The motorhome version is a 440-3 which means it has increased cooling capacity in the heads. This is important when buying sparkplugs. All engine parts are readily available at most any parts store.
A short history is as follows the 440 was introduced in 1966 (350hp) in the full size cars. In 1967 a high performance version was offered (375hp) Dodge called their version a "Magnum" and Plymouth labeled it a "Super Commando" and in Chryslers it was reffered to as "TNT". In 1969 it reached it's performance peak with the "Six Pak" which reffered to the three two barrel carb set up rated at 390hp. Around 1973 the 440-3 replaced the 413 in trucks and motorhomes. The 413 had been strictly a truck engine since the 440 replaced it in cars in 1966.The last production year for the 440 was 1978. It also shows up in later model motorhomes due to the fact coaches are sometimes built on a later year than the chassis. the 440-3 is a great motorhome engine in high performance form was the best cop motor known to man!
I read your article on the 440-3 motorhome engine. will this engine (440-3) fit in a 1970 Fury C-body vehicle? Also can you tell me about a 440-5 block, block casting#3830930-440-5? this block is for sale and I know nothing about what type of vehicle it will go into. Please respond to me as soon as possible. Thanks Michael
