Have a 1987 Coachmenn MH with a chevy 454 in it, it has all the bells and whistles, a/c , etc. Where can i find a diagram for replacing the belts-or even a repair manual would be fine. When my hubby took the belts off he couldn't see where they were placed, and now can't put them on... :(
If you go to Autozone,NAPA etc most have diagrams on the computors they can run off for you

Hi, I just wanted to give a warning about something to check on that engine. I had a baaad experience... my weekend in hell. The serpentine belt puts a LOT of pressure on every accessory on that engine. The one I borrowed from my dearest aunt was leaking a little coolant. Just enough to be a nuisance, but certain business pressures, put it as the least of our worries. Half way to Florida, the alternator light came on. Got a replacement and a waterpump while in the store. If the leak was the pump we could replace it at the racetrack between races. On the way back from Daytona, overheating all of a sudden. Massive water leak from manifold area. Seems all that pressure had broken two of the bracket bolts that also hold the intake seal. Later learned only one was broken the other, unreachable in this emergency was just loose. Later found smog pump bolts also broken off, really troublesome to get at. My advice?? Change every bolt you can get at to grade 8 immediately. Good luck.
Solution for belt routing on 1984/85 454,
We have a 1985 southwind w/no air pump, w/ac compressor, and we blew the two belts that were on the unit when we bought it. When we were trying to replace them, we found our book, which listed three belts.. and we realized that the reason we had always had a problem with the alternator belt squealing was that someone had put one longer belt on to run too many items. Here is what I believe would be the correct solution for belt routing for this unit,
We used a Gates 7470 for the crank to alternator to water pump, which goes on the outer pulleys of all three. Our book suggested a 7490/7495, but that was too long. We used a Gates 7410 on the farthest inside pulley on the crank to the outside pulley on the power steering/brake booster pump, which is the size listed in the book. The third belt would go between the a/c compressor and the crank, but we didn't put that one on, as a/c compressor seemed tight and didn't want trouble on that trip.. don't use it anyway
People are always asking about two belts on the a/c compressor, but it doesn't need two, and there would be no place to put a second, as the crank only has three slots and you can't drive a pulley from two different locations...turning speed issues, etc. If one belt won't turn the a/c compressor, the compressor is bad or you've got a stopped up dryer or something. It is common to see double pulleys, even if one isn't used. Hope this helps someone down the road as we sure spent several madcap hours first along the road and then in our shop solving the routing issue. Now, if someone could just tell us an easier way to loosen and tighten the power steering/brake booster pump..wouldn't that be great! Gee Wiz.. could they make these things just a LITTLE HARDER to work on? ;-)
I have a 1984 southwind motor home with a 454 engine and am getting sqweeling noises at mid speeds and after it warms up i quits i am trying to find the locations to tighten the belts as one seems loose. thankyou garth neubauer
