I have a 1977 GMC Motorhome. Olds 455 motor. No idea mileage on it. When I start it I hear a slight knock. Goes away very quickly. Good oil pressure, runs smooth, power good, no temp issues. Mechanic thinks piston skirt (spelling?) is cracked. Suggests I pull motor and tear down. Thoughts? Easiest way to pull motor on GMC?
Before you pull an engine you better find the problem. With the tools out there those days, it easy to inspect a bottom end & piston. The pan should come out of there without pulling the engine.
