I have a new 460 engine that was installed in my motor home in 2007, it now has less than 2500 miles on it. I left it sitting in a campground without starting it, for about a year. When I try to start it now, I have to pump the gas a lot, then it will start, but will not stay running. It's only burning the gas that I pumped to it. When it starts, it sounds good, no spitting or sputtering. Any suggestions from anyone on how to keep it running? I hope that it is not my fuel pump.
Thanks,
David
I have the exact same problem, the wierd thing is that 75% of the time, I take out a spark plug and the dumb things stays running, then, I park it and it does the same start/stop thing. I have replaced the carb, plugs, wires, coil and checked the fuel filter, which seems fine..would a fuel pump have symptons like this or a fuel pump relay??
I just fixed this same problem. A bad oil pressure switch. This switch when working correctly, turns off the fuel pump when oil pressure is not adequate. Ford no longer makes this switch so I put a connector on the two wires to close the circuit. I have a an oil pressure gauge so the switch really isn't necessary. You may want to replace the fule pump relay. I did that as well but it was not the problem.
