Foamy oil on dipstick when running...and shortly after. after cools...perfect...no water present. coolant is green as could be and no white smoke or sweet smelling exhaust...so not sure it is head gasket. any other thoughts on cause? use 20-50 and lucas in oil.
Oil may be over full or just cheap oil or thats the way it is. Do an oil change and use the specified amount of oil. See if the dipstick is the correct one from that. Oil will and does foam, there are additives in engine oil to reduce this. So it comes down to is the foam amount unusual. Good Luck
Sir, 20/50 oil is to thick? your 440 dash3 is a commercial truck engine. With your rear axle ratio of 4.56 your engine runs at about 3300rpm at 60mph. you should use either 10/30 or 40 only? Your oil pump is in the front cover and at very high rpm 20/50 is so thick it will by-pass through internal passages and may foam?. As you drive at cruse speeds the 20/50 oil holds in heat. Try the cheapest way first change the oil first. I have a holiday rambler 1984 with a 454 33'ft at 13k lbs. I run 10/30 oil (wallmart). I run the same rpm as you at 60mph. Your best bet for your coach is to change to amsol 10/40 synthetic?
