RV with Chevy 454 engine problems Mark 9-9-09
I have a 1986 El Dorado motor home with a chevy 454. I had been experiencing some engine sputtering and stalling when the engine was under load, noticed alot going up hills. Thought I had a problem with gas, changed fuel filters, had fuel pump checked and added Sea Foam. Ran better for a while, then started sputtering and stalling again at the end of a 500 mile trip. After engine ran for several hours without problems, I got gas, then hit the road only to stall 7 times in last 70 miles of trip. Engine restarts after 3 minutes of turning over, but will stall again under load (but will rev and idle fine in nuetral)Frustrated and looking for ideas

You have an fuel volume problem.
---replace the fuel pump filter back towards the fuel tank in rear.
---replace elec. fuel pump near the tank.NAPA @$135. It is a high volume/low pressure pump ( it feeds the mechanical pump on the block.)
--lastly check the metal tubing up near the carburetor and replace the sharply bent and thus very restrictive tube with a rubber hose and clamps. (ridiculous design !!!)
Good luck!
Tom

Tom you have the same as me chevy p-30. this chassis use a re circulating type fuel system to keep a good flow and to cool the fuel? you have two fuel lines at the tank one for supply that goes through the filter first and then the small electric pump? the fuel is boosted up to the pump at the engine. the fuel pump has an additional port to send a portion back to the tank for cooling. The fuel is pumped up to the carb at 8 to 12 psi to fill that massive carb. you can buy at napa an adapter for a guage to check pressures. Please be careful do not flame out when working with gasoline?

I just went on a trip in my 91 Dolphin Motorhome. It bagan stalling and sputtering and then stopped and wouldn't start at all. I had to have it piggybacked 80 miles and now it is in the tow yard.
I thought mabey a fuel filter or two.
I cant find any schematics for it at all.
Do you have any insight?
Thank
Tony
