Just purchased a 1981 Winnie Minnie and need a generator (portable) to run the AC. Don't know how many watts the AC runs on (roof top). Does anyone know how I can find out?
Is it a Coleman, Carrier, etc.? You can just google the model and find the spec's on a pdf file. Or just go to the makers website and see if they have the spec's available on a file. Whatever the size is, get something bigger, so you're not taxing the gene or the a/c on startup and cycling. Without getting technical on it, you'll need at least a generator with a 6-8 hp. engine. The smaller ones won't have enough "guts" to get a a/c compressor motor to start on a cycle with pressure in the lines. I've got an 8hp Kohler unit, and it works fine to run the whole camper. I've tried a smaller - one of those self-contained units - and it just couldn't do it. Hope this helps as a starting point.
