We have a 1974 Superior 2800 with the Dodge 440 engine. It runs fine but doesn't have much power at highway speed. On long hills it will slow to 35-40 mph. Superiors are quite heavy, the rig weighs 12000+. When it was new did it have more power? It has about 120K miles on it. Could the engine just be getting old and tired? It does have a rebuilt carb. I had a mechanic check it out and he corrected some problems caused by the previous work. Thanks for any advice.
Power is very subjective. Now we have add on devices we can put on your unit that will tell us that mixture is correct at full throttle and so on. But really the performance you list is not bad. I have seen these big units fail to pull away on 10% grades, drop all the way to low gear if they were moviing at the bottom. 10% is pretty steep but also pretty common where I camp. The long and short is I don't think you have a serious problem. Good Luck
