I have a 1977 Apollo with a 440 dodge engine. The fan clutch seems to be attached to the fan by about 4 bolts. How does the fan clutch come off. It has about 3 inches of clearance between the fan and the radiator. A local shop wants over $300 to replace it. That seems high. My manuel is no help it states (remove fan clutch) but how....going on a very long hot trip this summer and want this thing to be done. any help would be appreciated..

Rhio, In case you didn't read under my topic of compression test. Opening the throttle has no effect in a static compression test. Thanks for the specs DR. Dan PS. I assume you where talking about the 440 truck and RV engine?
I replaced my fan with an electric unit. It cost about $250 Canadian and took me approx 3 hours to install. Better fuel mileage and I intalled a toggle switch on the dash that I can run the fan with engine off to remove heat from the doghouse. One of the best investments so far for my 78.
