I have a 1978 Excecutive motor home that has a dodge 440-4 engine. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a 440-4 and a regular 440? Would a 440 from a 1 ton van be the same? I have searched and asked everywhere and can find no answer to this.
Are you sure it is a 440-4? Our 1979 Pace Arrow (which was built on a 1978 Chassis) split year motor home had a 440-3 engine. My understanding of the -3 meant there were changes in how the water flowed through the intake manifold.
I thought most of the 440 Dodge motor home chassis used the -3 engine...don't know about the -4, and no longer have the motor home or the books pertaining thereto.
Check out 440source.com. go to engine blocks and there is a link all about blocks. It sure enlighted me about the -3 thing. mine is a -9. hope this helps
