I am curious to know if anyone has experience with the 11-tooth bendix PMGR starters that are frequently available on ebaY. The typical chev V8 starter bendix has 9 teeth to mate with the 168-tooth ring gear on the converter flexplate. I do not understand how this 11-tooth bendix gear will mesh effectively with the stock ring gear.
PMGR is an acronym for Permanent Magnet Gear Reduction. This being the case, this unit has permanent magnet fields, replacing the traditional copper wound stator field coils. These seem like high quality units that also are priced attractively. The motor itself seems to be a simpler format.
I did send the seller a message and his reply (of course) was that he has sold over 500 of these so far through ebaY. His feedback as a seller is exemplary with many satisfied customers. I just do not understand the mechanics of this and if problems do come up with the unit in my application, then I'm probably stuck with it.
