Hi I have a part that has melted in my 78 dodge 440 motor home. It is a chryler part #3874129. Possibly an ignition part with an oval 3 pin connector. Could someone identify and tell where I can get an unmelted one! Thanks, Karen
I have a 77 Dodge 440 motor home & have been puzzling over the function of a part I have in my ignition system that sounds like this. If it is the same thing, then it is a module that is slightly smaller than the electronic control module. I believe this part is called a Timer Delay, & it operates a vacuum solenoid
which in turn is connected to a vaccum diaphram that operates a Throtle Kicker on the carb. In addition, it has an electrical connection into the ignition circuit between the electronic control module & the ballast resistor, the reason for which I do not understand. If anybody knows why it is tied into the ignition system, could you please email me.
I just bought a used 1979 Winnabago Chieftain w/the 440 doge motor. Same proble no spark. I replaced most of the iginition parts. I removed that same part #3874129 which dodge says is actually per the dodge manual called a electronic speed switch, ohers are calling it other names. But I found my reason for no spark was actually the magnetic sensor within the distributor, make sure the gap is set to.006 not more or less otherwise no spark. I fixed the starting problem even witout installing that #3874129 which tells me it may have something else to do with maybe emissions or something but not starting problems. Dadge states that part is no longer made under that part number and is no longer available unless some other motor uses the same items but as a different part number.
