Hydrogen generators Ed 8-4-08
Hi All,

I have been watching a lot of YouTube videos on the subject of hydrogen generators and hydrogen run vehicles. It seems that it a simple process to derive hydrogen from water with electrolysis using a 12 volt system (i.e. car battery), with power to spare. So, here's my question: why aren't more people doing it? Is it because big oil sends out propaganda or lack of knowledge on the part of the general public?

What's your view and does anyone have any insight into how to do it?

Thanks,

Ed

Well, whether a scam or not will be left to be seen. I have started to build one of these kits and I'll let everyone know if it works or not. Bubba, you have been a regular contributor in these forums, and I respect your opinion, but I will have to see this one for myself. No offense.

Chip, I was wondering if the computer chip could be fooled by interfering with the oxygen sensor's ability to read the volume of air at the end of the tail pipe? It seems that, if the sensor thinks the fuel is running lean, then it won't reduce the fuel flow, but increase it. Just a thought.

Re: Hydrogen generators BUBBA THE BUS TECH 8-5-08
Hydrogen generators are a scam!!! Don't pay a penny for plans etc. If you want to try this get junior high science book and read up. The problem is not that they dont work but that a car can not provide enough electrical power to seperate enough hydrogen and oxegen from water to power the engine. The easiest way to think about it is stored energy. To split the water into H2 and O you will expend a certain amount of power. Due to the mechanical proccess and electrical proccess not being perfectly eficent you will not get the same energy back. So you need an big engine producing electricity to produce hydrogen to run a small engine driving the car (1/3 the size or smaller) Mythbusters did a segment on this and the engine started for a split second but they disconted this as residual fuel. I belive it was the oxegen and hydrogen burning off. That is what one of these instruction kits get you. Good Luck

Hydrogen generators are not widely known about due to little knowledge outside the Internet. This does notmean it doesn't work. In fact, hydrogen generation has been a doable process since the late 1800's. At that time, with what was known about it, the amount of electrical power required made it unreasonable to attempt.

With our knowledge today, however, hydrogen generation is a simple process with materials that in many cases cost less than $100. If one is to supplement their fuel system, then no modifications are required, or if they are, very little.

The biggest problem is the computer controlled systems of today's cars, since they make adjustments on-the-fly, and they try to compensate for the additional efficiency by reducing the fuel to the system. This may make the engine run hotter. A simple modification to the computer can take this problem away.

Anyway, hydrogen powered vehicles are possible, but one would have to do their research.

Hope this helps give you confidence...

Re: Hydrogen generators rich 8-7-08
I knew 3 people that built hydro gen. for their cars in the 70's. They did seem to get a little better mileage then without them.(maybe just the fact that they kept them tuned up). All 3 had the containers blow up for them, spraying their acid mix throughout the engine compartment. And all replaced their alt. within 6 months of installing the gen. My brother-in-law burnt out 4 alt. within a year of rigging his. Experiment, you may find something others missed, but, I think you'll find there is a reason you don't find these as kits you can buy. No one could back up their claims of savings, and they put a strain on the electrical system. Rich
Re: Hydrogen generators wrench 8-19-08
The one who sell those, recommend a PWM(pulse width modulator in order to limit the draw from the alternator, but then you don't output enough current to generate enough brown gas to make a difference. If you were overloading the alternator you millage would drop.(Same as if you compare millage with AC on & off) Now the oxygen sensor controller is use to tell the ECM"do not send more gas" = leaner fueling, more millage, hotter engine, valve burned sooner,+?????
The bottom line is it cost more to produce then it pay out.
sincerely good luck

NOTE: If any one want stainless plate 300 serie 18 gage, I can make a deal on those.

MythBusters did an episode on this and at least the stuff they tested was all "busted".
Re: Hydrogen generators Tim 9-2-08
I want to install a unit on my Sterling with a 11 liter Cummings ISM turbo.. Is it possible and where would the hydrogen
be introduced to the engine?

Reason I ask this is another fellow Installed a unit 6liters a min. to his truck and introduced the hydro before the turbo. He was told he needed vacuum
so the hydro goes a long way before it enters the combustion chamber. He got no mileage increase. he did notice a smoother running motor and no smoke
but no milage increase.

So If I was to buy a system where would I introduce the hydrogen to the motor?.

Thank you in advance for your help.
Re: Hydrogen generators Sergio Ortiz 8-23-08
I was just visiting your forum, and have come across a lot of sites. There is some real information here, so I thought I could lend you a hand. Hydrogen generators are not a scam if built correctly, and with safety in mind. Our product that we have been working on for 5 years now, passed the ca.air resource board(supercedes EPA ) 8-mode test yesterday. If you guys know anything about Ca emission standards, they are second only to Germany. Our off-road product was certified against an 11 liter Cummings as new. We reduced emissions by 60% across the board. Our on-road product will be certified by the 1st quarter of 2009.I am hopeful Gerard Systems will be there to help everyone in the R.V industry to save fuel and reduce emissions. Good Luck To ALL. Sergio sortiz_gei at yahoo
Re: Hydrogen generators proff 9-17-08
I made a PWM oscillator and feed a signal into a water solution, the gas then was feed into a diesel motor in a 4WD pick up. I used to spend $130 a week in fuel, now i spend about $80 to $90.
After 5 months of using this, No effects to the motor.

Re: Hydrogen generators Bill 9-24-08
The Hydrogen generator is not new science as I found when I looked back into my old (1954) 2nd year Auto Mechanics apprentice textbook under electrical theory.

Its actually quite simple.

The chemical effect of an electric current can be studied by connecting wires to a 12 Volt storage battery..one wire from the POS + terminal and one from the NEG - terminal

( WARNING ! DO NOT CONNECT OR TOUCH THE WIRES TOGETHER. BATTERIES CAN EXPLODE)

and submerge the free ends of the two wires (keep separated) in a glass of water in which a little table salt has been dissolved.
Current passing through the liquid causes the water ( H2O ) to break into its two component gases Hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O). The Hydrogen gas accumulates in fine bubbles around the
Neg wire and the Oxygen goes to the Pos wire. The gassing accumulate mainly around the Neg wire.

You could say that is the basics of the Hydrogen fuel cell.

In the units available today, the Hydrogen gas is fed into the air intake.
