I own a Mobil home, Winnebago Vectra 33" from year 1996.
I bought my Mobil home in February 2001, but I am disappointing with battery charging.
In my RV home, there is a Magnetek Charger.
Technical:
Magnetek series 900 model 940E
Input 220 vac 50 Hz
Out 12VDC
40 AMP max
Code 1045
Average charge rate 5 amp.
Max charge rate 40 amp.
I bought new batteries in Mars because I thought the old one drop power to fast,
But I still have problems.
Maybe there is a problem with Magnetek charger, and I have done a test of charging :
Test battery 60 amps. and reading 12.40 volt.
When I input 230 AC volts from ground connection to MagneTek charger,
I measured 13.02 DC volt measured at battery positive and negative.
When I connect output 234 AC volts from Oman Genset Emerald III to the
Charger,
I measured 15.80 DC volts at battery positive and negative on the
small battery (60 amp) and it starts bubbling.
When connected MagneTek charger to RV home battery (5 pc with total 500
amp.)
It starts at 14.55 DC volt and increase to 15.80 DC volt at battery positive
and negative and battery's starts bubbling.
Without any battery connect to charger, I measured 18.50 DC volts with ONAN
Genset 234 AC volt and 14.20 DC volts with ground 230 AC volts.
I hope this information is OK
It seems that connecting MagneTek charger to ground power AC volt fail, to low measured ?
When connecting to Onan Genset Emerald III output AC , to high measured ?.
Can you or your staff explain to me what the problem is, please ?
Is it possible to repair, or do I have to buy a new one ?
The problem with those magnetek power supply is the voltage is not regulated. You need to buy an extra regulator to make it decent, and then ,you still have a ferroresonance type converter which is not adequated for deep cycle battery.
The best bet is to get a high frequency battery charger if you want to stop having to replace your battery every year or so.

AND PLS, don't run that converter with the battery disconnected,,voltage peak way to high and you will burn you electronic(frig, furnace control,ac control, sound system, & other)

charger doesn't seem to be charging up the battery when AC power is being used. There seems to be no power at the hook up from the trailer wires that hook into the battery. It does work in the sense that it does convert from AC to DC when the AC is disconnected, it's just not charging the battery like it should.
