1979 Winnebago Brave ignition switch Kim 6-29-06
I have a 1979 Winnebago Brave with a Dodge chasis system. My father recently lost the keys and I was needing to know about replacing the ignition switch. I have called Winnebago dealers and also Dodge dealers and no one knows anything. Can I replace the ignition switch with another Dodge switch or must it be a certain make and year? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think if you go to a good NAPA auto parts store they may have a after market switch,or can order one if not in stock.Should fit right in. Good luck Mike

You first dissconnect the battery for saftey.
Then reach under dash and feel for a 21/2 inch round thing with all the wires comming out. now run your fingers up to the seat of that and feel the threaded area.
This will be like a big nut.
Look at it with a mirrorand flash light to get familiar with it.
Unscrewit and bring the system out into the day light. Now you can see that with a small screw driver you can take it apart by unlocking the small tabs.
What you want to chenge is the whole key assembly
BUt you can take off that whole part and GO TO ADVANCE AUTO OR most any good auto store. They willshow the trick to getting old lock out.
also the directions for this are in the box.
The lock and keys is about $8.90 dollars.
it is just a locking cylinder. TTHAT IS ALL and it drops in and you twist and click it to set it.
AN RV dealer will not deal with it because it is considered part of the chssia.and very few deal with the chassis.
BUT don't be alarmed it is a simple fix.
Yes you can write me for more info pertaining to this.
fat freddy out.
