1991 Southwind ford 460 efi wont start Ed Hills 4-2-06
My MH was running and the + cable came loose and touched the post while running I heard a pop and the engine quit running. Won't start. I have replaced the ECM, coil, cap & rotor, new battery, checked all fuses, and I still can't get the engine to start. I'm confused and I really suck as electrical problems. Anything mechanical I can fix but I am stuck for a solution for this problem. Any help will be appreciated.

Does the motor turn over but wont start.Or it won;t turn over.???? IF the cable came off while the motor was running, your 12 system may of had a very high voltage rise due to the load being un hooked.Could have have gone up to 70 or 80 volts for a surge of voltage.Frist check all fuses and fuseable links. If it won;t turn over cause the battery keeps going down check the diodes in the alternator.I Fixed my neighbors MH twice when froze up the battery and it cracked open.IT blew out a lot of stuff that was turned on in the coach as well.Do you know what the pop was,any burn marks around the cable area.May have hit the frame or anything around there.I guess Iwould start at the Ign.Switch and look for 12v.Then the coil look for 12v.If no voltage look for voltage on the safety switch resetable usually near lower part of steering column. It turns off fuel pump when in a accident.maybe it shorted to ground.Could be many things.

Check fuel pump and relay may not have power. Turn key on, check for 12V at pump. If OK it could be the relay.

We also have an 1991 southwind and recently the fuel line popped off of the gas tank. Once we lowered the fuel tank fixed the line then raised the gas tank again now the motor home wont start. The fuel pump will not kick in. We have traced all wires and can not find a relay or fuse for the fuel pump. We have worked on it for the last 3 days. Anyone have any suggestion on where the relay or fuse might be or what else we can check? Anyone know where we can get a wiring schematic?
