Fuel gauge on 1990 p30 Bounder does not work. Is there a possible fuse location I cannot find? No fuses I can find are bad. What steps can I use to find problem?
Paul, check this out.....
The fuel gauge and sender in your coach are probably rated at 90-ohms. This means the gauge should read at or near empty when the resistance is low, somewhere around 0-5 ohms. When the resistance is high (90-100 ohms), the gauge should read full. Aside from having no voltage at the gauge, there are three other possibilities for the gauge to read empty all the time: the sender could be faulty, the gauge itself could be faulty or the wire between the gauge and the sender is shorted to ground.
Try disconnecting the sender wire at the sending unit on the tank. With the ignition key on, the dash gauge should swing way past the “full” mark. If it does, the sending unit is at fault. If the gauge does not move at all, it could be the wire or the gauge. Next, disconnect the wire (this time at the gauge). If the gauge still reads empty, the gauge itself is faulty. If the gauge still swings past the “full” level, you have a shorted wire. Run a new wire from the gauge to the sending unit, taking care to route it away from exhaust components or sharp edges on the frame.
