I have a 1997 Ford Ranger and the dome light stays on. Is there an easy fix. Where can I find a wiring diagram. Presently I have removed the fuse to keep battery from going dead.
Thanks
O R Bishop
Has anyone found the switch.. I am ready with my wire cutters when AI find the thing!! I see posts about the same problem all over the board.. the only suggestion is WD-40.. well 2 cans latter I still have a dead battery from this stupid light!! Help !!
Which fuse # is the fuse for the dome lights as I bought it used and have NO manual, also where can I get an Owner's manual for a 1997 Foprd Ranger XLT....tks
I also have this problem with my dome light. I can't take out the fuse because my alarm is wired to the domelight. I had this problem in 2002 right at the end of my warrenty and the problem was in the computer. That was fixed for free. I hope that's not the problem now.
Spray penetrating oil into the clasp on the door that keeps it shut. The interior light switch is in in there and it gets all gummed up. It worked for me.
Which fuse did you remove? I was so pleased to see I am not the only one with this problem - it just started today. I would be very appreciative if you could let me know which fuse.

On my 1997 Ford Ranger the dome light does not work. I checked the bulb receptical and there is not electric there. Must be the switch, but I can't find it. Can somebody help me with this problem? Thanks
Ken
Had this problem on my '97 Ranger. A mechanic sprayed the drivers door latch with WD40, no help. I later got to thinking and sprayed the passenger door latch. Problem solved. Soak them good, let them sit overnight, and hit them again. Has anyone tried to access the dome light through the outside high level brake light/bed light assembly? Might work.
I'm glad I saw this posting and the tip about the wd-40. 3am last satuday I just about ripped the light out of my 2000 ranger like Joe did. Instead I disconnected the negative battery cable. When I re-connected it the next day it was fine, except I lost the clock and presets the first of which is a pain to reset without the manual (which I didn't get when I bought it used). The dome light lens has been impossible to pry off. Ford needs to fix this type of stuff or they're going to have a lot of dead trucks laying around and unhappy customers.
Yea i just sprayed some lithium grease in mine, and it works like a charm now. I was living with out a lightbulb in my truck for about a year and a half using my cellphone light haha. But yea, light on? get lithium grease, cause it lubes it up as it penetrates.
I had the same problem with my dome light and ripped the thing out like others did (wish I would have investigated first!). Anyway, where can i get replacement dome light b'c now the entire thing is fouled up. Google searches aren't yielding anything!!! Thanks for the help!
Had this same stupid problem for months in my 00' ranger. I finally ripped the dome light right off the roof in a fit of rage! I've gone 2 years now with no dome light and I could not be happier.
I have a ford ranger 97 and removed the dome light cover with a penny. let me know if works for you.
Where's the push button on the door that turns off and on the dome light. I've been spraying my car with liquid wrench and no freaking luck. Let me know if you guys find it. thanks.
