I have been plagues for MONTHS with a mysterious smell of something electrically hot and vaguely smelling like plastic burning. That is the only way I can discribe the smell.
This morning I happened to HEAR what sounded like an electrical arc and SAW smoke coming out of the ceiling vents for a few seconds and dissipate. And there was that familiar smell. The fan was already running on the low setting and the air conditioner kicked in just when that happened. And the a/c continued to blow cold after it happened.
I called an RV mechanic a few miles away and was told was probably a circuit board inside the A/C unit. But the A/C unit is OUTSIDE on the roof. Does this explanation make sense or am I about to be taken for a ride if I take my rig there?
I am thinking the culprit is an electrical short in the control box that sits just inside the air intake. I am confident in my ability to replace the unit myself if I am able to locate the part, but would appreciate guidance on how to test to be sure that IS the culprit before I go on a wild goose chase. And anything else you think I should know/try/test before buying this part and replacing it?
