When I turn key to on, voltage meter reads very low 8-10 V. With Dual battery switch pushed it will read higher but all I get is a couple of turns of the engine. Swapped engine BATT with another same thing. Chassie BATT's brand new.
I have re-done every connection I can find and now think it is the starter or the converter/charger.
Anyone know of a simple test to determine which one.
This is in a 83 Coachman Chevy P30 with 454 engine.
Dennis.... sounds like the starter.pull it out and take it to a NAPA,Pep Boys or Auto Zone. Most of them will check it for free if you have the courtesy to by the replacement there.
Dennis, the most important and most often missed connection is the ground connection @ the chasis. When you push dual battery swich your'e getting a higher reading because your'e showing house battery voltage, wich may elliminate your'e converter. Unless your'e charging those independantly, your'e converter is most likely working. I would suggest replacing the ground cable to your'e chasis unless it looks immaculate.
