1999 Dodge Caravan Sport "door ajar" problem

1999 Dodge Caravan Sport "door ajar" problem Sonny 8-9-04  
I have a 99 Dodge Caravan Sport and the "door ajar" indicator lamp and dome lights remain on even if the van is not started. The only time it will go away is when I put the gear in reverse. I have to unplug the battery cable to keep it off.
Please help!
