I have a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT and my the dome light stays on and the DOOR AJAR light remains on constantly even with all doors shut, the dome light will go off after about ten minutes. I have been reading through some of the forums and I see the same problem come up, Can someone please tell me what is causing this problem and what I might do to fix it, short from taking to the dealer. The dealer says it is fixed, but it is not. Can someone assist me? Thank you....
I had the same problem on my 98 Ranger dome light and ajar light. I found that using wd-40 on the latch mechanism with the door open works. Not the door handle. There is a tiny switch that will stick especially in cold weather next to the mechanism. Good luck
My 98 Ranger has the same problem. Interior light stays on solid, door ajar indicator on solid too. I took out fuse 26, and keep a flashlight on seat. Am going to spray hinges with WD40 in AM.
I HAVE A NEW BATTERY AND A NEW ALTERNATOR THAT I JUST INSTALLED AFTER MY CAR HAD NO POWER THE OTHER DAY. I INSTALLED THESE 2 ITEMS TODAY AND STARTED UP MY TRUCK..IT TURNED OVER THEN AFTER 1 SECOND CUT OFF..THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH CURRENT TO GET IT GOING...COULD SOMEONE SHARE WITH ME WHAT MY NEXT STEP WOULD BE. MY BUDDY AND I LOOKED FOR THE FUSABLE LINKS BUT COULD NOT FIND THEM...I HAVE A 1998 RANGER XLT...THANKS FOR YOUR HELP...
Ford needs to have a recall on this, because it seems like everyone who owns a ranger is having the same problem! My 2000 Ranger is doing the same flippin thing. I have to keep a flashlight on my seat also!! WD40 is only temp resolution, Ford needs to step up to the plate.
I have a '98 Ford Ranger XLT with the same problem. The crazy thing that happened tonight that made me look up this website is I talked to another Ranger owner with the same problem on a '99 model. It's hard to believe that this hasn't been addressed if it's so widely spread. I will try the WD40 tomorrow.
Just bought a 2001 ranger. dome light bulbs are missing and so is the fuse that goes inbetween the bulbs. what size of fuse is it? it came without owners manual.
I've got a 1988 Ford Ranger 2.3, 5 speed... Somethin's drainin' my battery... Had the Alternator tested twice on 2 different testers & it checks out fine... Got a new battery... Replaced the Pos. & Neg. Cables with terminals... Checked inline fusable wires near Solenoid & they're fine... Starter starts fine - Nut haven't had it tested - It may be the cause... After replacin' Battery Cables, Testin' the Alternator I charged the Battery & I put my Meter on it shut off & It read 14.85 Volts... With it runnin' the Amp gauge in the Dash is slightly towards discgarge... Drove it for about 60 - 70 miles durin' the day & had headlights on for about the last 20 milse... Drove about 40 - 45 miles durin' the day the followin' day with no lights, radio or anything on & it stalled... Jumped it & drove about 1 block & as soon as I stopped at the light it died again... What else could or should I check that may be causin' this? Thanks, Rich P.S. All my Fuses under the Dash are fine...
We have a 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4 flare side. We have the same problem with the door ajar light and interior light. We to changed fuses "no results" And now we are having problems with the wind sheild wipers. They now wont work either. We will try the WD 40 trick and update you...
I have similar problem as Brent with a 1988 Ranger. Jump starting worked but it wouldn't keep running. I swapped in a new batters and it started fine but the battery was dead the next morning after having been run just 5 minutes. Where is the likely short? Thanks
I have a 2000 ford ranger 2wd MT and it has a security chip that you have to put into the slot inorder to engauge the ignition and for some unknown reason it will not aknowladge that the chip is in and will not turn over when i turn the key it makes no sound at all i had 2 blown fuses and changed them with no positive results just the same problem what would cause this? what can i do?
