Ford Ranger Electrical Problems Craig 9-19-03
When driving at higher RPMs, the battery telltale illuminates. This also happens when parked in neutral and simply revving the engine. I was thinking maybe the voltage regulator or the alternator. Any help on how to better diagnose the problem would be appreciated. Truck is a 2001.

The truck lights will flick on and off while running, if I unplug one of the lights, it will not flicker. I replaced the battery but it is still doing that.

97 ford ranger truck interior light stays on and door adjar light comes on intermittedly, had it fixed at dealer, at 48 thousand miles. Started again at 50 thousand miles, dealer refused to help without our now paying for repair, only days out of extended warrenty. It was first brought in while under warrenty, then it failed again, didn't they not fix it right in the first place?

Re: Ford Ranger Electrical Problems richard 10-6-03
You've got a bad alternator.
at the higher rpm's the engine is drawing more power and the alternator can't keep up.
Re: Ford Ranger Electrical Problems vance1601 10-11-03
Brushes on alternator may be bad, replace alternator
Re: Ford Ranger Electrical Problems Phil Feinstein 10-14-03
For this year the voltage regulator is part of the alternator; if it goes bad you have to replace the alternator anyway. Your local Sears or Checker or Pep boys or Advance has equipment to test your charging system and it costs nothing. I would recommend standing over the person's shoulder and watching, just to keep everyone honest. If they don't let you watch, thank them and leave.

There is a test called "Full fielding" the Alternator: identify the field wire on the Alternator and jump it to a good ground. The output from the Alternator should go to 15 volts. The stator wire needs to be connected for the alternator to work properly. Do not confuse the 2 wires. Field is ground, stator is hot (12v). If your alternator puts out less than 15v, it should be replaced. Voltage should be measured from the BATT terminal on the back.

Let me know if this helps!

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger and I am having similar electrical issues with the light staying on after I have closed the door sometimes as long as five minutes after starting the vehicle and closing the door or leaving the vehicle. The door ajar light also stays on constantly after the vehicle has been started. I have not made time to take it by the dealership, but am planning on doing so soon when I get a day off.

Re: Ford Ranger Electrical Problems Nate 3-3-04
On newer ford veihcles the door switch for domelight/door ajar is located inside the latch on the edge of the door. The latch gets sticky after awile and a good spray of WD-40 or Tri-flo lube will fix the dome light problem. A guy I work with had the same problem on his 97 F150, and I just noticed it starting on our 99 ranger...

After replacing the starter silenoid in my 1994 ford ranger splash, 4.0l there was no power to the truck, i.e. no lights, no horn no power at all. The battery is brand new. We also replaced the fuseable link. What else could cause this problem

My 97 Ford Ranger has done the exact same thing since the day I bought it off the lot. I also had no luck getting Ford to do anything about it. Unfortunately, I just learned to live with it. Good luck.

MY TRUCK DOES THE SAME THING.I HAVE A 1995 RANGER. DID YOU FIND OUT WHERE THE BOARD IS AND HOW TO REPLACE IT ? THANKS
Re: Ford Ranger Electrical Problems Mike 2-11-04
My 95 ford ranger is also having problems with the door chime staying on - it happens most often when the interior of the truck gets hot. There's no way I'm paying $360.00 to fix this.

Any idea where this board is?

My ford ranger has problems, When the head lights are on and you hit the brake. the break lights dim and the turn signals come on dim. Also if the turn signal is turned on while the headlights are on all the rear lights blink...Tail lights..3rd tail light and the blinkers on both sides.

I have a 1994 Ranger and the blower motor quit working. I have power out of the fuse (brown wire with orange stripe), but no power at the switch.
There are two black wires going into the terminal at the switch. Where does the wire from the fuse go before going to the switch? Where does the wire change from brown/orange to the two black wires?

Did anyone ever come up with an answer to the question of the brake lights and turn signal not working. I checked fuses and grounds and all are good.
