I have a 1989, P-30 chassis, 454. I have the usual burnt right rear plug wire. I have heard of Champion Truck Wires, they are about $20.00 more than the OEM wires. Has anyone have anyone use or know of Champion Truck wires and how do they hold up against the OEM wires ?? Thanks for any info.
Hi Jim, Personally, I never have liked the way most auto manufactures route the spark plug wire behind the Exhaust manifold. The first time I ever have with burning plug wires, I would always re-route them over the valve cover with straight plug wire ends, and some decent plug wire hangers, end of problems. I had people tell me, oh yea, you can hold a blow torch to these wires and they won't burn, but I've never seen them stand up to the direct heat of an exhaust manifold, for hours on end, with out getting cooked.
A good silicone, spiral core wire will last longer if you buy 3 feet of Thermo Tec 14010 sleeve and cut eight 4 1/2 inch lengths and slip over the plug boots. I have done this with several vehicles, using straight boots.
